Microstructure evolution of railway pearlitic wheel steels under rolling-sliding contact loading

نویسندگان

چکیده

The objective of this work is to investigate the microstructure evolution railway pearlitic wheel materials (ER7, CL60 and C-class) under a rolling-sliding contact loading. Firstly, microstructures steel at different depths from strain-free matrix top surface were systematically investigated via laser scanning confocal microscope (LSCM), electron microscopy (SEM), backscattered diffraction (EBSD), transmission (TEM) X-ray (XRD). Secondly, differences in layers those three types steels explored. At last, correlation between evolutions their wear rolling fatigue (RCF) behaviours was discussed. These information could provide guide development premium choosing materials.

Analysis of Rail Ends under Wheel Contact Loading

The effect of the discontinuity of the rail ends and the presence of lower modulus insulation material at the gap to the variations of stresses in the insulated rail joint (IRJ) is presented. A three-dimensional wheel – rail contact model in the finite element framework is used for the analysis. It is shown that the maximum stress occurs in the subsurface of the railhead when the wheel contact ...

The Influence of Wheel/Rail Contact Conditions on the Microstructure and Hardness of Railway Wheels

The susceptibility of railway wheels to wear and rolling contact fatigue damage is influenced by the properties of the wheel material. These are influenced by the steel composition, wheel manufacturing process, and thermal and mechanical loading during operation. The in-service properties therefore vary with depth below the surface and with position across the wheel tread. This paper discusses ...

Microstructure-based 3d Fe Modeling for Micro Cutting Ferritic- Pearlitic Carbon Steels

The mechanics of the cutting process on the microscopic level differ fundamentally from the conventional macro cutting. For example, the tool edge radius influences the cutting mechanism in micro machining significantly with regard to the effective rake angle, the minimum chip thickness, the dominance of ploughing, and the related elasto-plastic deformation of the workpiece material. These phen...

Contact Force Estimation in the Railway Vehicle Wheel-Rail Interface

Increased patronage of railways in the UK in the past 20 years has put demands on rolling stock to operate at peak availability with reduced time available for maintenance. One possible tool to enable this is the use of real time fault detection and diagnosis on board railway vehicles to detect faulty components and provide information about the current running condition of the system. This pap...

A new solution method for wheel/rail rolling contact

To solve the problem of wheel/rail rolling contact of nonlinear steady-state curving, a three-dimensional transient finite element (FE) model is developed by the explicit software ANSYS/LS-DYNA. To improve the solving speed and efficiency, an explicit-explicit order solution method is put forward based on analysis of the features of implicit and explicit algorithm. The solution method was first...
